'Operation: Safe Child' ID Cards

March 18th, 2009 Dear Waterloo Central School Parent(s), School Resource Officer Rod Kraft will be providing “Operation: Safe Child” I.D. cards for students in the Waterloo Central School District. Statistics show that 34 percent of parents in the United States do not know their child’s exact height, weight and eye color. When a child is reported missing time can be the greatest adversary. Possessing up-to-date photographs and detailed information about a child can prove to be an important proactive measure that can greatly assist local law enforcement officials to quickly respond to a child’s disappearance. The cards contain a child’s name, biographical information (date of birth, gender, height, weight, hair color, eye color, etc.), and a fingerprint image of both index fingers. There is an authorization form that needs to be completed by the parent/guardian in order to have these I.D. cards produced. The form has two areas for signatures. The first is required to have the I.D. produced, and the second is optional and authorizes or does not authorize the information to be saved and stored in a secure server at the Division of Criminal Justice Services. If you authorize your child’s information to be saved it can only be accessed by law enforcement for the purpose of a missing person investigation. The information will be automatically deleted upon the child’s 18th birthday. If your child attends K - 8th grade in the Waterloo Central School District a form letter with information about this program along with an authorization form will be sent home to you by mail, or with your child. If your child attends the Waterloo Senior High School you may contact School Resource Officer Rod Kraft for more information about the program, and how your high school student can obtain an “Operation: Safe Child” I.D. card. School Resource Officer Rod Kraft can be reached by phone at 315-539-2041 or via e-mail at rod.kraft@waterloocsd.org. Additional information about “Operation: Safe Child” I.D. cards can be obtained at www.operationsafechild.org. Sincerely, Sgt. Rod Kraft
