A Message from the Principal

Be a person of good character”

LaFayette Intermediate School educates students in grades 3 -5. We provide a safe, nurturing, loving environment that fosters self-esteem, is conducive to learning, and prepares students to be successful for their life in and beyond the classroom walls.

The staff at LaFayette is a team of educators committed to providing children with lessons that target their ability while challenging them to reach higher standards. The district has provided staff development that has trained the teachers to reach all learning styles through their lessons. LaFayette was recognized by Commissioner Mills as a High Performing Gap closing School.

Students at LaFayette receive the core curricula of math, English Language Arts, science, and social studies, as well as computer class, physical education, music, art, and library skills. Teachers work closely in all areas to provide integrated instruction to the children.

Character education is stressed at Lafayette. Our week begins with a morning program every Monday. All (400+) students gather in the gymnasium to celebrate birthdays, awards, and successes. Lessons focusing on the character education word of the month are provided. Guest speakers and presenters visit to teach our students about interesting topics. Parents are welcome to join us for this fun and educational time each Monday morning at 9:25 AM.

LaFayette encourages and appreciates parent participation. We have a very dedicated building level Steering Committee and a District Level Parent Teacher Group. We offer a plethora of activities throughout the year for students that require parent volunteers. Roller skating parties, movie nights, Secret Santa Shop, and our book fair are successful due to parents who take an active role in their child’s education. We welcome guest speakers as well as classroom volunteers.

The safety of our students is of utmost importance. You need to enter though the main office door and sign in when visiting LaFayette. We ask that you drive carefully and slowly on and around school grounds. Our staff is committed to safety for the protection of your child.
