    Scholarships

     

    Students will be emailed all scholarships (PDF) to their school address.  Scholarships will also be emailed to parents/guardians and placed on the district website.  Hard copies are in the counseling office.  For students that are completely remote, copies of scholarships will be available in the Main Office.  Please email Ms. Goodman at terri.goodman@waterloocsd.org for transcript request.  

     

    Please read each scholarship carefully.  If a scholarship is to be turned into the Counseling Office, a drop box will be in the Main Office.

    Scott Sampson Memorial Conservation Scholarship (deadline June 1)

    Seneca County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs, Inc. will be awarding a scholarship to one Seneca County graduating senior who will be pursuing a degree in the environmental conservation related area either at a two year or four year college.  Applications are available in the counseling office/main office

    Angelo D. Bianchi Memorial Award (deadline May 14)

    The Angelo D. Bianchi Memorial Award for Community Service - Presented by the Marine Corps League to a graduating senior whose direct efforts have positively impacted the community or whose leadership inspired others to contribute through meaningful contributions.

    The recipient will receive a $500 award from the Marine Corps League upon selection.

    Application in the Counseling or main office and is also attached. 

    New York District Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship Application (deadline May 15)

    The NY District Foundation and The NY District of Kiwanis International will be awarding $1000 scholarships to graduating High School Seniors who are entering College or Trade School September 2021.

    Seneca County Youth Bureau Scholarship (deadline May 28)

    Selection will be based on the following;

    • Academic effort
    • Community service
    • Essay Content
    • Financial aspects
    • References
    • School Involvement

    Applications available in the counseling and office.  Student must mail completed application. 

     

    Stephen B. Johnson Scholarship (deadline May 19)

    Criteria:

    • Overall GPA 80% or higher
    • Two or more varsity letters
    • Community service experience
    • Recommendation from one coach or one teacher
    • Transcript

    Applications are available in the Counseling Office and must be returned to Guidance.

     

     

    The Barbara and Leonard Hornung Scholarship (deadline May 15)

    This scholarship, established in memory of Barbara and Leonard Hornung, recognizes their service to the Waterloo community. His five daughters and several grandchildren graduated from Waterloo High School. Passionate about giving back to the community, Leonard volunteered two/three times a week for over 25 years as an EMT and treasurer at North Seneca Ambulance while working full time as a CFO at Seneca Knitting Mill. Barbara spent countless hours within the Waterloo School District volunteering.  She also spent time volunteering at St. Mary’s Church as a religious education instructor. 

     

    A $500 scholarship, paid to you by the Waterloo School District, will be awarded to one senior who meets the following criteria:

     

    1. A senior at Waterloo High School who has chosen to pursue a two or four-year degree in the healthcare field
    2. Two letters of recommendation, one from a current teacher
    3. Demonstrated community service, with a one-page essay describing how your community service impacted the community and helped your personal growth.

    WATERLOO EDUCATION FOUNDATION INC

    Dennis Bertino Memorial Scholarship (due May 3) $2,500

    • Summit with your application a short essay articulating your passion for engineering, architecture, building and hunting and/or fishing
    • Transcript must be submitted with this application
    • Any member of the Waterloo HS graduation who has been accepted or is awaiting acceptance or is waiting acceptance at an accredited institution or trade school of higher learning may apply. 
    • Candidates should have a respect for lifelong learning and an understanding of the importance of community involvement.

    Michael S. Bertino Memorial Scholarship (deadline May 3) $2, 500

    • Any member of Waterloo High School’s graduating Class of 2021 who will be entering in any branch of the USA Armed Services
    • Candidates should have a respect for lifelong learning and an understanding of the importance of community involvement.
    • Submit with your application a short essay articulating your reasons for entering the armed services, your goals and your love for America

    Louise Rose Bertino Memorial Scholarship (deadline May 3) $2, 500

    • Any female member of the Waterloo High School’s graduating Class of 2021 who has been accepted or is awaiting acceptance at a college majoring in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or Supply Chain) field may apply
    • Candidates should have a respect for lifelong learning and an understanding of the importance of community involvement.
    • Submit with your application a short essay articulating why you feel STEM is important for women

    Charles Battaglia Memorial Scholarship (deadline May 3)

    • Any member of the Waterloo HS graduation who has been accepted or is awaiting acceptance or is waiting acceptance at a two or four-year accredited NYS Institution of higher learning.  Restricted based on the declared major/anticipated field of study of elementary education. 
    • Candidates should have a respect for lifelong learning and an understanding of the importance of community involvement.
    • Must be a resident of Waterloo, NY
    • Must maintain a GPA 2.25 or higher

    Edward M. Boudreau Scholarship (deadline May 3)

    • Any member of the Waterloo HS graduation who has been accepted or is awaiting acceptance or is waiting acceptance at an accredited institution or trade school of higher learning may apply. 
    • Candidates should have a respect for lifelong learning and an understanding of the importance of community involvement.
    • Must maintain a GPA 80 or higher

    Waterloo Education Foundation, Inc. (deadline May 3)

    • Any member of the Waterloo HS graduation who has been accepted or is awaiting acceptance at a one year, two year or four year accredited institution of higher learning may apply. 
    • Candidates should have a respect for lifelong learning and an understanding of the importance of community involvement.
    • If you are an Eagle Scout or hold the “Gold Award” in Girl Scouts, a description of your project must be submitted with application

    Earl T. (“Red”) & Alice Wadhams Scholarship (deadline May 3)

    • Any member of the Waterloo HS graduation who has been accepted or is awaiting acceptance or is waiting acceptance at an accredited institution or trade school of higher learning may apply. 
    • Candidates should have a respect for lifelong learning and an understanding of the importance of community involvement.

     

    Seneca Community Players Award (deadline May 21)

    Seneca Community Players, who have entertained the community for over 45 years with quality theater productions, is offering two $250.00 awards to Seneca County high school graduating seniors who have been involved in the performance arts.  This could involve theater, musical or dance performance. 

     

    North Seneca Ambulance, Inc.  (Deadline May 4)

                  Candidates must be a senior and who are attending a college for a healthcare related career field.  

    NYSIR (NYS Insurance Reciprocal) is pleased to offer three scholarships, the Cristin Bambino, Paul Jensen and Goncalves awards

     

    The Cristin Bambino scholarship

    • The Bambino scholarship is available to a special education student who is college-bound. The goal of the scholarship is to reward a student who has worked through his or her special challenges to complete high school and gain acceptance at a college or university.

     

    The Paul Jensen scholarship

    • The Jensen scholarship is available to a student who has excelled in design in his or her high school career. The goal of the scholarship is to reward a student who has shown interest and promise in design and who wishes to pursue that path in college.

     

    The Goncalves Scholarship

    • The Goncalves Scholarship is available to a student who demonstrates an involvement and work for a cause or organization that promotes social justice, equal opportunity, relief of human suffering or other aspiration generally understood to be within the meaning of humanitarian activity.

    Waterloo Education Association ( May 2)

    1. Waterloo Education Scholarship (2) of $1200.00 each with a priority being given, but not necessarily, to students who intend to major in education
    2. Michael DeRaddo Memorial Scholarship of $500.00 to be given to a student majoring in the nursing, medical or engineering fields
    3. Nancy Hilimire Memorial Scholarship of $500.00 to be given to a student majoring in elementary education
    4. Michael Osowski Memorial Scholarship of $250.00 to be given to a student who will attend a four year college for music or the performing arts, demonstrates a financial need, and displays a zest for life and mankind

     

     

    OTTC Ontario and Trumansburg Telephone Companies (deadline April 5)

    Griswold Telephone Scholarship Applicant must be pursuing a degree in Engineering, IT or Telecommunications.  Applications are available in the counseling office and must be returned to the counseling office by 2:00pm on April 5. Application in the Counseling Office  

     

    Thomas O. Atkinson Memorial Scholarship (deadline April 30)

    Considerations for the award is given to a student pursuing a career in any of the following:

    • The technologies
    • Conservation
    • science
    • Electronics
    • Environmental science
    • Attending Alfred State College

    Karen L. Adler-Hoven Scholarship

    • Senior with a B average who shows potential, a financial need and will be attending a local community college
    • $1,000 Scholarship

    Seneca County American Legion Scholarship (student must mail completed application by May 1)

    Award of the scholarship will be given on the basis of student performance in academics, service to the community which reflects good citizenship and need.  Although preference will be given to Veterans or children of Veterans, a parent’s status as a Veteran or membership in the American Legion is not a requirement.  Applications are available in the counseling office. 

    Thompson Health Guild Scholarship (deadline April 9)

    The Thompson Health Guild is offering up to four $2,000 scholarships to be awarded to students who have been enrolled the entire senior year in a high school located in the service area of the Thompson Health System, Inc.

     

    This award will be made based on merit to high school seniors who will enroll in any university, college or school offering post-high school training in a human health-related field.

    School Administrators Association of New York State, Region 11 College Scholarship Award

    SAANYS is proud to announce its annual College Scholarship Award Program.  Graduation seniors are urged to write a 500 hundred-word essay on the following topic:

                  “A School Administrator Who Has Made a Difference in My Life”

     2021 SAGES Advancement in Agricultural Studies Scholarship

    The Student Association of the Geneva Experiment Station (SAGES) is now accepting applications for the 2016 Advancement in Agricultural Studies Scholarship. Members of SAGES include graduate students and post-doctoral associates of Cornell University’s New York State Agricultural Experiment Station (NYSAES), and the Advancement of Agricultural Studies Scholarship was established as a way to give back to the communities that have contributed so much to their lives and education at NYSAES and Cornell.

    The scholarship committee will accept applications from graduating seniors. Eligible applicants must be residents of or attend high school in the following counties: Ontario, Yates, Seneca, Tompkins, Cayuga, Schuyler, and Wayne.

    Successful applicants must be graduating high school seniors who intend to enroll in a 2- or 4-year degree program in the agricultural sciences (examples of appropriate degrees are listed on the application). Applications are due by April 23, 2021 and winner(s) will be notified by the end of May. Application is available in the Main Office and Counseling Office.  

     

     

    Orville Cook Scholarship

     

    The scholarships will be awarded based on the language of the Cook Scholarship trust agreement, which governs the intent of the funds to be disbursed. In summary, the selection of the recipients will be based on the following criteria/language of the trust:

     

    • Students pursuing a higher education who graduate of any high school located in Seneca County, NY and who without such aid would not be able to pursue higher education
    • Character of the student
    • Motivation of the student
    • The scholastic record of the student

    Applications can be found in the Counseling office and must be returned to the Counseling Office by April 2, 2021

     

     

    Seneca County Children’s Committee (deadline April 23)

    Students pursuing any type of higher education, including trade schools, beauty schools, business schools, community colleges, and four-year colleges, full-time, may apply for a scholarship.

    • Financial need
    • Character and involvement in the community
    • Academic potential

    Students must mail the completed application by Friday, April 23.  Complete application in the counseling office.

     

     

     

    Zonta Club of Geneva 2021 Memorial Fund Scholarship (Deadline March 24, 2021)

    • Any female senior enrolled in a full or part-time degree-seeking program. 
    • Must demonstrate goals and ideals similar to those stated in Zonta’s objectives.
    • The application must be returned to the School Counseling Office by March 24

     

     

     

    The James H. Rice Memorial Scholarship (two scholarships awarded in the amount of $1,000)

    The James H. Rice Memorial Scholarship offers financial assistance and recognition to high school seniors in the counties of Ontario, Seneca and Yates. 

    Requirements:

    • 2021 graduate
    • 87 numerical average
    • Completed application
    • 2 letters of reference

    Applications are in the counseling office or Main office.  Completed applications are due on or before  May 7, 2021

     

    The New York Grand Lodge Foundation Scholarship (mailed deadline March 31)

    The New York Grand Lodge of the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America announces the 2021 scholarship and grant program for graduating High School Seniors. 

    Eligibility

    Applicant must be of Italian descent and a resident of New York State. Undergraduate and graduate awards are presented to high school or college students who will begin full-time study for the fall academic term of the year their application is eligible to apply for the competition. The scholarship awards are based on academic excellence and service.  Students must have an average of 85%.

    Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America National Leadership Grants

    General Eligibility: US citizens of Italian Descent enrolled in a four-year undergraduate program for the Fall of 2021 term.

    FASNY (Firemen’s Association of the State of New York) Gerald J. Buckenmeyer Volunteer Scholarship (Deadline March 15)

    • The applicant or the applicant’s parent/legal guardian must be a member in good standing with FASNY, and
    • The applicant must be a senior in high school who is enrolled in the fall 2013 school year at an accredited two-or four year institution of higher learning, and
    • Must be a current junior firefighter, Explorer Scout of RAM in a volunteer department; a volunteer firefighter in a volunteer fire department; or a volunteer with an EMS agency; and has demonstrated both a commitment to volunteer emergency service and to the community.
    • Be postmarked or electronically submitted by 3/15/2021.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to both volunteer emergency service and the community.
