Board of Education

The Board of Education establishes school policies, approves personnel appointments, adopts budgets, approves textbook selections, awards bids, and has complete and final control over controversial school issues.

All actions of the Board require the affirmative vote of at least five of the nine members. These members are unsalaried and are elected to three-year terms of office.

Community members are encouraged to attend all meetings. A record of the proceedings of the Board is available for inspection by the public in the district administrative offices.

Regular Board meetings are held on the third Monday of each month in the Waterloo Middle School Large Group Instruction Room, at 7:00 PM unless otherwise noted in the calendar. Additional "programs" and "special" meetings are also scheduled throughout the year.

Board Of Education District Goals 2025-2026

The Waterloo CSD Board of Education has established key goals for the 2025-2026 academic year. These goals focus on improving literacy proficiency, creating a personalized learning experience for students, implementing a consistent MTSS process with fidelity, and increasing communication for students and families regarding pathways and acceleration opportunities.

Goal 1: Improving Academic Achievement

A key goal for Waterloo CSD is to increase academic achievement across all grade levels, 3-5%, in literacy. This focus on academic excellence aims to prepare students for future success in higher education and careers.

Goal 2: Personalized School Experience

One of the primary goals for Waterloo CSD is to implement a system for student reflection and goal setting at all grades. This approach aims to build student ownership in learning. This goal focuses on developing strategies to increase student participation in setting their personalized learning targets and monitoring tgheir growth.

Ongoing support based for personalized learning practices such as, but not limited to blended learning, project-based learning, reflection, goal setting, collaboration and creativity.

*The board is committed to increasing professional learning for staff in the appropriate and acceptable use of AI for students as a tool.
 
Goal 3: Fidelity of MTSS Process

Waterloo CSD aims to provide comprehensive support for all buildings to implement tiered meetings for the purpose of student supports. This collaboration will help ensure that students are receiving appropriate interventions based on their needs

 
Goal 4: Increased Communication Regarding Pathway Opportunities

In recognizing the importance of motivating students through personal interests, Waterloo CSD is prioritizing planning for the transition to post-secondary experiences for students. This goal aims to create a supportive, student-centered, collaborative environment beginning in 6th grade for students to create a personalized plan for post-secondary goals through increased pathway opportunities.
