Two members of the Transportation Department were recently honored as Unsung Heroes by the Waterloo Central School District.
Bus drivers Rick Leisenring and Armin Winters were recognized for their actions this fall. Both were nominated by Transportation Supervisor D’Allah “D” Laffoon.
Leisenring’s nomination read: “While at FLTCC to pick up students in the afternoon, Rick was made aware of a safety investigation on the campus. Seeing the concern and fear of the students on board, Rick addressed the students to reassure them that they were safe and they were going to be going home. A few parents have expressed much appreciation for Rick as the students communicated that they felt better once they were addressed.
“I am proud that a driver from the Waterloo Central School District’s transportation team was able to recognize the state of the students and be able to address them in order to make them feel safe.”
Winters’ nomination read: “I would like to nominate Armin Winters for going above and beyond while transporting students for a neighboring district’s sporting event. Armin not only wore a Mynderse track suit (he is an alumni), he also offered to assist any students that needed meals at Tom Wahl’s.
“The coach stated: ‘The driver that you sent us was the best. He is an awesome man and driver. You have a real treasure there.’
“The Waterloo Central School District should be proud to have such an ambassador in the Transportation Department.”
An unsung hero is a Waterloo Central School District staff member who goes above and beyond when serving students, faculty and staff on our campus, demonstrates a positive attitude toward others, and shows outstanding work performance.
