On March 11, members of the REV Theatre Co. put on their Echoes Concert for the Waterloo Middle School. The performance takes poems, songs, stories and skits submitted by students from across New York State and weaves them into a fun-filled, 50-minute performance.
"We receive over 4,000 creative writing pieces each year," according to the official Echoes website. At least one author from each participating school district is showcased in the performance, and special recognition is given out at the end to that school's best submissions.
Sixth-grader Finnley Kuhlmann's piece "Supercalafragilistic-exitaliadotiousvile TV Channel Disaster" was showcased in this year's performance, and is a humorous story of a news broadcast being interrupted by a pizza delivery.
"It was cool to see my piece being performed," Finnley said. "My parents were proud too."
"The Crash Site of 105" by sixth-graders Brynn Moody, Olivia Laird, and Kelsey Marquart received an Excellence in Writing award from Echoes, which is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the competition.
“It felt good to be recognized for our work,” said Brynn.
Honorable mentions were also bestowed upon Kristy Austin, Nina Ninestine, Henley Guy, Carsten Jensen, Sierra Mumford, Sophia Hennigan, Griffin Messecar and Rosabella Westfall for their pieces.
Congratulations to all who participated!
