March 15th Message from Superintendent Bavis regarding School Closure in response to Seneca County's State of Emergency

March 15, 2020

Thank you for your flexibility and patience as our response to COVID-19 has been rapidly evolving each day. As an education community, we continue to make the safety of our students and staff the primary focus in our decision-making process. We have been working diligently with our community partners to plan and respond to this emerging issue. We have been in constant contact with the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and County Public Health, while receiving updated guidance from the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) regularly.

Although there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Seneca County, we have been advised that temporarily closing schools would be the best course of action to help prevent outbreak in our communities. The four Seneca County School Districts: Romulus CSD, Seneca Falls CSD, South Seneca CSD and Waterloo CSD will be closed on Monday, March 16 for students, staff are to report. This will allow our staff time to prepare materials for students to have during the school closure period. School will be in session on Tuesday, March 17th for all students, faculty and staff. This will allow students to receive the materials and to gather other personal items. All four Seneca County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 and will remain closed through Monday, April 13, 2020.

We will continue to communicate additional details in the coming days. We appreciate your cooperation during this challenging time.

Sincerely,

Terri Bavis

Superintendent
