April 8th message from Superintendent Bavis updating education status

Dear Waterloo Families,

As you may have heard, the New York State Interim Commissioner of Education announced yesterday afternoon that the New York State Regents Exams this June have been canceled. There is much guidance regarding graduation requirements and the Regents Exams that we are currently working through. Our administrative team met virtually yesterday afternoon to review the guidance and to begin to formulate plans related to this announcement. Mr. Vitale and Mrs. Madonna, our Secondary Building Principals, will communicate with students and their families in more detail next week.

I am sure you have also heard that the Governor has extended his order for schools to remain closed through April 29, 2020.

A reminder that all district facilities, including playgrounds, tennis courts, the stadium, track, box lacrosse, all district fields, etc., are closed through April 29, 2020.

We currently have continuity of instruction plans in place through April 28, 2020. Building Principals will individually share updated continuity of learning plans in the weeks ahead.

Deliveries of breakfast and lunch for families who have requested this, will continue.

Please see the link below to access the most recent update from the New York State Education Department.

I have also included an attachment below that I received from the New York State Education Department late yesterday afternoon regarding health insurance for your families should you need assistance due to a job loss.

As always, thank you for your continued patience and support as we continue to shift and modify our plans as decisions from Governor Cuomo and Interim Commissioner Shannon Tahoe are shared.
