Bus Parade Honors Dale Buck

Dale Buck didn't have a typical birthday celebration this year.

More than 20 buses from 11 school districts and organizations gathered to honor Mr. Buck's 50 years of service to the Waterloo Central School District with a special bus parade on Wednesday, March 23, Mr. Buck's 82nd birthday.

Mr. Buck started as a part-time bus driver in the spring of 1972, took on a full-time route that fall and served for seven years as transportation supervisor before "retiring" in 2002. He has continued to help with training and driving part-time ever since.

Mr. Buck was joined by family and friends as the parade started at the bus garage and wound through the village, making appearances at LaFayette Intermediate School, Skoi-Yase Primary School, Waterloo High School and Waterloo Middle School.

Buses from the South Seneca, Palmyra-Macedon, Geneva, Lyons, Seneca Falls, Manchester-Shortsville, Regional Transit Service (RGTA), Bloomfield, Romulus and New York Bus Sales participated in the parade along with 11 buses from the Waterloo Central School District and vehicles from the Waterloo Police Department and Waterloo Fire Department.

New York Bus Sales and Matthew's Bus Sales sponsored a chicken barbecue prepared by K&R Catering after the parade. Participants took a moment to sing "Happy Birthday" to Mr. Buck during the meal.

"It was fantastic," Mr. Buck said of the event.
