Waterloo Junior Qualifies For State Golf Tournament

L.J. Siblosky, a junior at Waterloo High School, has qualified for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships in boys golf.

Sibolsky finished in a tie for seventh place at the Section V Boys Golf Supersectionals to earn a spot on the nine-player team. He will compete at the NYSPHSAA championships on June 4-6 at the Mark Twain Golf Course in Elmira.

Sibloksy finished second in Class A after shooting a 3-over-par 74 at Clifton Springs Country Club on Saturday.  He followed that up with a 6-over 78 on Monday at Wayne Hills Golf Club to secure a spot on Section V’s state team.

“This was my first year playing in sectionals, so a lot of it was taking it one day at a time and trying not to get too far ahead of myself,” Siblosky said. “I just tried to stay as positive as possible and focus on the end result.”

Siblosky, who finished second at the Finger Lakes League Tournament in October, is the first Waterloo golfer to make the Section V state team since Joe Benjamin in 2003. He is excited about the opportunity to represent his school and Section V, especially since the state meet has not been held since 2019.

“I am looking forward to not only the individual competition, but the team aspect as well,” he said. “I am looking to place as high as I can as an individual and also helping the team win.”
