Waterloo Senior Reaches States In Three Sports

Waterloo High School senior Chance RicePorter is headed to a familiar place this weekend – the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships.

Chance registered 2,694 points to finish second in the Division II pentathlon at the Section V State Qualifier at Eastridge High School on June 3. She will now compete at states on Friday at Cicero-North Syracuse.

Chance also competed at states in cross country and indoor track this year.

“Going to states in three sports is pretty nice,” said Chance, who advanced to nationals in the 600-meter run during indoor track.

Chance is a versatile athlete who enjoys the pentathlon because it keeps her busy during meets.

“There are so many events,” she said. “I get bored if I am not always doing an event.”

Chance plans to continue her academic and athletic career at Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall and is taking a simple approach to states.

“It’s a nice way to end it,” she said of her high school career. “I just want to go and have fun.”

Congratulations and good luck, Chance!
