Dylan Caraballo Ties Section V Record
Steve Bradley

Any athlete wants to go out on a high note. But for Dylan Caraballo, the note can’t get much higher or sweeter.

The Waterloo senior was involved in every touchdown for the Tigers in their 53-25 win over Mynderse Academy on Nov. 1. Caraballo passed for four TDs, returned two interceptions for TDs, ran for one TD and returned a punt for another. The performance ties the Section V record for total TDs in a game (8), a record Caraballo now shares with three others (Ray Leach of Batavia, Alton Jones of Spencerport and Zack Loomis of Avon).

“Yeah, that was quite a game,” said Dylan. “But we were just focused on beating them, beating our rivals.”

That focus paid off with an early lead for the Tigers and after the first four TDs, Caraballo said it was “full go” from there. And why not? It was the final game of the regular season of his senior season and going out with a win over your rival is as sweet as it gets.

Then again, getting fellow seniors like Justin Knowlton, Cam Jacobs and Brandon Lee involved with scores made it about as perfect as it could get.

“That’s the coolest part,” said Dylan. “Getting all those guys involved with TDs feels just as good. So playing my last game with my school team and with friends I’ve grown up playing with, it’s perfect and that’s the ending I would pick.”

Dylan’s high school football career ended with the Nov. 26 Eddie Meath All-Star Game at the University of Rochester’s Fauver Stadium. He’s planning to play college football and has had contact with some coaches but hasn’t finalized a decision.

Wherever Caraballo ends up playing, Waterloo coach Scott Maloney said that program is getting a dedicated and passionate athlete.

“He certainly was (in a zone),” Maloney said. “He can make anything happen on either side of the ball and he’s helped carry this team through some tight games. He’s well-deserving (of a game like this) and it’s a fitting way for a kid like Dylan to end his career at Waterloo.”
